Witness Katy Perry’s fierce side in the First Look of Her New CoverGirl Commercial Ad!

You have to be living under the rock to not know the legal battle CoverGirl Cosmetics is currently facing over their Katy Kat Collection by Katy Perry. Katy Kat collection came under fire for plagiarizing a trademark logo of a Florida based cosmetics company Hard Candy.

Hard Candy is suing CoverGirl’s parent company Procter and Gamble for allegedly infringing its trademark logo design that has been their logo for more than a decade now. Hard Candy goes on to claim that CoverGirl is attempting to confuse the customers with a similar logo design as it targets the similar customers and price range is almost the same as well. Hard Candy is currently demanding Katy Perry’s collection to be taken off shelves and also a share of profits the Katy Kat collection has made until now since its launch earlier this year.

Despite the claims made by Hard Candy in their lawsuit, CoverGirl is ready to defend against these allegations. Tressie Rose, spokesperson for Procter and Gamble says the heart icon is a universal symbol to show affection and love. Such a common symbol is not a trademark as this symbol is used globally on social media, texting and other platforms. Using a heart icon does not mean we plagiarized from Hard Candy, in fact it is a common symbol that does not belong to any particular party. The heart icon is featured in many different entertainment logo design as well.

Katy Perry isn’t one of the defendants but she is at the center of this controversy as the collection is inspired by her. However, it doesn’t seem to have slowed Katy Perry or CoverGirl Cosmetics down as she took to Twitter on Sunday evening to share the first look at her brand new CoverGirl Commercial.

She tweeted: “FIRST [look] at my brand new @COVERGIRL commercial for the #KATYxCOVERGIRL collection!”

The first look at her collection definitely leaves the viewers wanting for more. The 30-second clip shows Katy’s head popping out of a blue box. She is talking about her Mascaras and Matte Lipstick Collection in this clip. You can see Katy’s fierce and witty side in this commercial when she says “It’s not a regular cat eye” as the Katy Kat Eye mascara gives 10X more volume and doesn’t smudge. It is currently available in two shades i.e. Very Perry Black and Very Perry Blue. The clip ends with Katy Perry clawing the screen saying “You better Pounce”. In those last few seconds, you get to witness the wild and strong Katy you came to love in her Roar Video.

This teaser has definitely given high hopes to all cosmetic-enthusiasts as the Katy Kat Collection looks amazing! Anticipating more from the Kat 🙂
