Who Could Be A Graphic Designer?

Graphic Desiging

The number of definitions online, defining a graphic designer are way too many to remember – especially from articles and blogs.

There are statements trying to portray a graphic designer as a normal human being with abnormal creative skills, or as simple as someone who works in the designing industry, to that of someone who has a lot of money to simply throw away!

My definition of a graphic designer is as simple as ‘to each his own’. It has everything to do with talent most definitely, but nothing to do with words such as ‘simple’, ‘normal’ and specifically ‘plain’. For my kindergarten going niece I am a magician! Someone who could put a smile on the face of a few children at times with my sketches and drawings! (The same designs I later make money out of by having them ready for industry specific clientele… shhh)

If you have been sketching in books right since your school and college times, if you have been hit with the chalk at a 90 degree angle from all your professors as you were too busy scribbling, my friend you have the backbone and thinking of a graphic designer! Welcome aboard! (Especially if you dodged it)

Not everyone can be a graphic designer although their talents in sketching and drawing may always exceed their own expectations, the reality is only with experience in any profession would you succeed.

The career is most exciting and intriguing if you are game for it! Your interest would most certainly dwindle and fondle, but if you continue on the path of learning and are open to feedback you may not only succeed but also make money while you do what you love!

Your Creativity vs. Your Expectations

You have the upper hand as soon as you realize that you can incorporate intelligent messages within small images, thus the status of an ‘artist’ feels as though a badge of honor, but yes it is! But when you create a design it’s very difficult to contain your emotions as you want everyone to adore your idea amidst the fierce market competition.

As long as you are patient with just the right idea neatness and design, success will come to you! The more you crave it the more it could go sideways. If you trust your graphic design and yourself, your idea is already successful.
An idea or a design now a days would take a matter of a few minutes to share via the internet social media, print, videos and animation.

If you like the Attention – The Rush

Apart from being creative and talented, it all depends if that rush really hits you, when your design is depicted or portrayed via a certain median – and the whole world gets to see it!.

Imagine walking in to a Bank whose logo and identity was personally designed by you. You see their banners, their identity badges, pens, notebooks and different accessories. The feeling is unexplainable and if you have felt this before, then you may as well as pursue a career in graphic designing, because this is the fuel for every designer out there. The feeling that your work is not only on display but has additional value to it, would automatically make you feel like a superhero.
Your Design, Your Money, Your Method

Although you would be designing for clients, but until you give away the final files, it’s your brain child. Thus when you create an iconic logo, or a website design, or a graphic design that which you know would immediately tick with a given product – you feel responsible for the complete project – as if a parent for a child.

The money graphic designing attracts has always been in question. As per the United States of America, the varying salary for a graphic designer is $43,500 annually compounded to $20.92 per hour in accordance with the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics. The slab gets better with the name of an individual designer or the alliance of a designer with a famous design house.

No Graphic Design Studio would technically hire an individual without a degree in designing. Nevertheless, the trend for displaying portfolios and being hired – then learning while earning has seem to boom this industry. Anyone who has a degree in art may also qualify to an extent where the average salary may be cut short until one learns the essentials of software’s involved and the dynamics of designing.

A graphic designer has the power to either be a freelance, full time or an intermediary artist. The best part about being a designer is that with experience (and I mean years of it) one may be able to govern and add touch ups for finished designs within a design house and simply make more money.

Last but not the least, if you love what you do, you will never get bored of it!
